Pilates
“In ten sessions you will feel the difference; in twenty you will see the difference, and in thirty you’ll have a whole new body.”
-Joseph Pilates
Pilates (pronounced "puh-lah-teez") was developed in the 1920’s by Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates was a boxer and dancer who also studied Yoga and Zen meditation. Pilates is a system of over 500 controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body. It is a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training that improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulking up.
Pilates works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion, with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core (the abdomen, back and pelvic girdle region, sometimes referred to as the "powerhouse").
The focus in Pilates is on quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel invigorated rather than exhausted after a session. Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body works as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.
Matt Smith Physical Therapy offers private and
semi-private sessions.
Each session is 30 or 60 minutes and by appointment only.
Private Class: Our private one-on-one session is one of the most effective ways to begin exploring the Pilates System. Each session is tailored to your specific needs.
Semi-Private Classes: Our semi-private classes consist of 2 - 3 students and one instructor. Semi-Privates are designed for healthy, uninjured bodies who are ready to learn the basic principals of the Pilates System.
